Top 4 Ducting Parts to Safeguard Your Roof
Summary
Roof-penetrating ductwork needs specific protective parts to prevent leaks, corrosion, and premature roof failure. The four most common Nordfab® components used for this are the No-Loss Stackhead, Jet Cap, Roof Flashing, and Roof Skirt— each suited to a different combination of airflow direction, weather exposure, and roof slope. Choosing the right one, in the right material and end type, protects your building envelope, keeps your fan system running efficiently, and helps meet building code requirements for roof penetrations.

Why Roof Protection Ducting Matters
Ducting parts for roof protection play a crucial role in safeguarding the integrity and longevity of commercial and industrial buildings. They deliver value in four main ways:
Asset protection — preventing water damage, corrosion, and premature deterioration of roofing materials.Occupant comfort and safety — supporting proper ventilation and climate control for a productive working environment.
Regulatory compliance — many building codes mandate specific roof protection measures for commercial and industrial structures.
Long-term cost savings — quality ducting products reduce the frequency of repairs and replacements over the life of the roof.
Who Needs Roof Protection Ducting
Several industries rely on roof protection ducting to keep operations running smoothly and buildings intact:
- Manufacturing facilities use ductwork to maintain optimal working conditions for equipment and personnel.
- Warehouses and distribution centers protect goods, equipment, and infrastructure across large storage footprints.
- Commercial buildings, including office complexes, use these measures to ensure occupant comfort and safety.
- Data centers prioritize roof protection to maintain the controlled temperature and moisture conditions sensitive electronics require.
Nordfab® Ducting offers a range of affordable standard products for protecting your roof wherever ventilation ducting penetrates it, along with custom-designed protective products for unique applications.
NORDFAB® DUCTING PARTS FOR ROOF PROTECTION
No-Loss Stackheads are optimal when considering pressure loss. Used when exhausting from fans or stacks through roofs, No-Loss Stackheads eliminate back pressure on your fan while providing the weather protection you need.
Jet Caps prevent precipitation from entering your ductwork. An inner funnel allow rain to drain from the ducting even when your dust collection system is not running.
Roof Flashing provides cover for roof penetration. Roof Flashings are supplied in two halves for easy installation. Flashing should be used on roofs with a maximum slope of 23°.
Roof Skirts provides weather protection for roof penetration. Roof Skirts should be used on roofs with a maximum slope of 23°. Available in sizes from 3″ to 24″ diameter, and in galvanized steel or 304 stainless steel.
Customizing Your Roof Protection Parts
Nordfab® roof protection parts are customizable to fit almost any application. When ordering, specify:
- Material and gauge
- End sizes
- End types — for round ends: Quick-Fit®, Raw ID, Raw OD, No Fitting, Hose Adapter, Flanged, or Van Stone; for square/rectangular ends: flanged, hemmed, or raw

FAQs: Roof Ductwork
What is the difference between a No-Loss Stackhead and a Jet Cap?
A No-Loss Stackhead is designed to minimize pressure loss and back pressure on your fan, making it ideal for active exhaust systems. A Jet Cap is designed primarily to keep rain out via an internal drainage funnel, which is especially useful when the dust collection system isn't running.
What roof slope can Roof Flashing and Roof Skirts handle?
Both Roof Flashing and Roof Skirts are rated for roofs with a maximum slope of 23°. Steeper roofs may require a different or custom solution.
What sizes do Roof Skirts come in?
Roof Skirts are available in diameters from 3″ to 24″, in either galvanized steel or 304 stainless steel.
Can these roof protection parts be customized?
Yes. Nordfab® roof protection parts can be customized by material, gauge, end size, and end type (including Quick-Fit®, Raw ID, Raw OD, Flanged, Van Stone, and more for round ducting, or flanged, hemmed, and raw for square/rectangular ducting).
Why does roof protection ducting matter for building compliance?
Many building codes require specific roof protection measures for commercial and industrial structures. Using properly rated ducting parts helps meet those requirements while also protecting the roof from water damage and corrosion.
How do I get a quote for custom roof protection parts?
You can request a quote directly from Nordfab®. Submitting basic project details and a rough sketch gets you a CAD drawing, parts list, budgetary quote, and installation instructions.
